Choose the right check

Nine checks, one question: what do you want to be sure of?

One question to ask

Before you add a check, finish this sentence: "At this moment of the test, I want to be sure that...".Your answer names the check.

Every check waits for what it expects, up to its timeout, and moves on the moment it is there. You never need to guess how long a screen takes to load.

Find your check

Visual or text?

Both are right; they catch different problems.

A visual check

Compares the look: colour, size, icon, font, spelling as drawn.Best for buttons, icons, logos and anything you recognise by how it looks.

A text check

Reads the words. It still passes when the design changes but the words are right.Best for labels, messages, titles and values.

Add a check yourself

In GUI Test Studio, open the Assertions palette and drag the check onto the Assertion track, at the moment it should happen. Then open it from the Properties panel to show it what to look for on the frame of the recording.

Each check in the palette says what it does and when it is the best choice.
